Russell studied film production at the Panico Film studio in London before embarking on his first feature film 'Burn' a low budget drama starring Andrew Lancel and Miranda Pleasence.
Following filming Russell was commissioned to write one of four monologues that would comprise the play 'Clubland' telling the story of a run down London nightclub and it's employees. Russell's monologue was entitled 'Working Class Nero' and centered on the loverlorn nightclub owner.
Following 'Clubland's' success Russell's second commission 'Cool Blokes: Decent Suits' started as a simple two hander telling the story of two emotionally bankrupt and inept gangsters. The play premiered at The Old Red Lion Theatre in Islington and such was the favourable response to it that a sequel 'Suits 2 - Back From The Cleaners' was commissioned and subsequently performed back to back with the original at the Salisbury Playhouse the following year. Both scripts were then re-written for film and 'Cool Blokes: Decent Suits' became Russell's second film as writer and director.
Russell's latest plays 'The Seventeenth Valentine' and 'Freestate' both premiered at The White Bear Theatre in London in 2008. With 'Freestate' also being performed in Manchester.
Russell is also at work on his next feature film 'Cold Calling' which is scheduled for production over the following year through his company Lappaman Productions, as well as his next two stage plays.
